Meløyvær småbåtforening (small boat association) owns and operates a small harbour facility at Gårdsøya, Meløyvær, Norway, approximately 20 miles north of the city of Harstad. Between the large islands of Senja and Andøya, Gårdsøya is the northernmost habitated island in the large archipelago that runs out from Harstad and contains islands such as Grytøya, Kjøtta, Sandsøya and Bjarkøya, to mention a few.
Long time ago, also Steinavær was a habitated island archipelago with a small (but large for the size of the islands) fishing community, even further north into the sea, but today little remains to remind us of the previous human activity on these islands, and Meløyvær is now the outmost habitation.
